ABOUT THE PROTOTYPE
The SD70ACe is the successor of the SD70MAC, with changes being made to comply with emission standards. Going into production in 2004, the ACe fires with a 15% lower internal pressure to improve emissions. The ACe is equipped with EMD’s 16-710-G3C-T3 prime mover which is rated at 4300hp. Later, a Tier 3 version of this prime mover were rated at 4500hp. In 2015, the Tier 4 emission restrictions went into place, forcing EMD to develop the SD70ACe-T4 due to not being able to successfully modify the prime movers to be Tier 4 compliant.
